Harris 10th at Miller Motorsports Park

Hayward, CA - September 17, 2007  The Grand-Am KONI Challenge Grand Sport (GS) race Friday at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah was Auston Harris' second race of the entire year.  Auston's last race was the Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway in January 2007 just a few weeks after he turned 16 years old.

Auston drove the Hyper Sport #156 Mustang GT for the first time last week; it was his first experience with solid rear axle suspension.  He qualified the car in 18th grid position with a very respectable fast lap of 3:15.296 on the 4.5 mile course.

Seeming disaster struck when as Auston was driving the car to grid for the race, the car failed, it simply stopped running.  The Hyper Sport crew swarmed over the car and found the electrical problem that had caused the car to stop running but not before the grid had departed for the pace lap.  Auston's starting position in the 33 car Grand Sport field was lost; he started from pit lane after the field had received the green flag.

Starting from pit lane was a new experience for Auston. He moved through the field carefully and steadily, climbing to 7h at the end of lap 13 and to 5th in lap 19.  Lap 18 was he quickest of the race, unexpectedly as the tires performance was less than optimal; Auston bested his qualifying effort with a 3:15.270.

Auston brought the #156 Hyper Sport Mustang GT in for tires, fuel and turned it over to his co-driver Gunnar Jeanette for the second and final stint of the 2.5 hour race.

Auston and Gunnar combined to bring the #156 Mustang GT across the finish line in 10th position from a pit lane start.

"I had a great week here at Miller, everyone at Hyper Sport has been great to work with and the results show it.", said Auston after the race, "I made a few moves during my stint that were questionable and I've found the drivers and apologized, I was pushing a little harder than I needed to after such a long time away from competition."
