Harris' USTCC Challenge Cut Short |
|
Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, CA - September 9, 2006
Auston Harris' charge for Rookie honors in the 2006 United States Touring Car Championship was cut short today when he was precluded from participating in the next two USTCC races.
The issue is that the next two USTCC events are scheduled to be conducted at Infineon Raceway on the challenging 2.52 mile road course and Infineon Raceway has a policy that only drivers 16 years of age and older are allowed on the track. Despite his experience, third in the 2005 Formula TR 1600 Championship, third overall in the 2005 25 Hours of Thunderhill, first in the 2005 Northern California SpecE30 Championship, Auston is still only 15 years old.
Auston will continue to participate in events as his school schedule allows but his challenge for USTCC Rookie honors have been thwarted, effectively because he is too young.
