Formula TR Rounds 11 & 12 - Portland |
|
August 30, 2005 Oakland, CA – Auston Harris returned to California after a four day excursion to Portland Oregon for rounds 11 and 12 of the Formula TR 1600 Series Championship for 2005. Auston did well over the four days in the Pacific Northwest returning with a third and a fourth place finish.
Round 11 was conducted on Saturday with qualifying at noon and the race at 5 PM. Auston qualified 4th. Auston worked hard to try to overtake the 3rd place car but incidents kept the pace car out quite a bit of the race, including for the checkered flag.
The schedule for Round 12 was similar to Round 11 but with the race starting even later at 6:20 PM. Auston spun early in the qualifying session while adjusting his brake bias and then soon after had a mechanical failure with his drive axle shearing which resulted in his 6th position on the starting grid. Auston put on the show of the race. Although he started 6th, he moved to 4th before the first turn! From then on he and the third place qualifier battled with each other trading positions twice and ultimately Auston crossing the finish line first, in third place.
Heading for Rounds 13 and 14 at Thunderhill Raceway Park on September 10 and 11 Auston is in 3rd place for the 1600 Series Championship.
